Graphic design

Varela Frontistirio has been operating since 1975 — over 50 years of educational service in the northern suburbs of Athens, making it one of the most established private tutorial colleges in the region. The visual identity was designed to honour that heritage while signalling the modern, pedagogically evolved institution Varela has become: one that offers not only Greek Panelladikes preparation but also iGCSE and IAL (International A-Level) programmes, vocational counselling, a Parents’ School, and a proprietary VarelaFront student platform.

A deep navy palette with academic blue accents was chosen — authoritative, serious, and trusted, the visual language parents associate with institutional credibility in the Greek educational market. The tagline “Η παράδοση στις επιτυχίες συνεχίζεται” (The tradition of success continues) is the brand’s anchor, and the design foregrounds the 50-year milestone prominently in the hero section, treating longevity as the primary trust signal it is for a family making a high-stakes educational investment.

Student testimonial quotes — from named graduates who reached specific schools (Διεθνών και Ευρωπαϊκών Σπουδών, etc.) — were treated as primary visual content rather than secondary supporting material, presented in prominent quote blocks that make the site feel like a record of real outcomes rather than marketing copy. Parent testimonials sit alongside student voices, acknowledging that in the Greek frontistirio market the purchase decision involves both the student and the family.

Design approach

The site serves two primary audiences with distinct but overlapping information needs: students (who want to know about classes, methods, exam preparation, and results) and parents (who want to understand the teaching methodology, the care for their child’s individual development, and the track record of success). Both paths are honoured without one dominating — the Method page addresses the structured intake process (first meeting with the Director of Studies, diagnostic exam, personal interview, small groups of 4-7), which speaks directly to the parental need for personalisation and oversight.

The curriculum architecture covers multiple academic tracks across all secondary school year groups: Gymnasium preparation, Lyceum Α’, Β’, Γ’ across both Ανθρωπιστικές (Humanities) and Θετικές & Τεχνολογικές (Sciences & Technology) streams, as well as Σπουδές Υγείας & Ζωής (Life Sciences). A dedicated English section covers the iGCSE and IAL pathways in both Greek and English, targeting students pursuing international university entry alongside or instead of the Greek Panelladikes — a distinctly premium and strategically sophisticated offering.

The Επιτυχόντες (Successful Students) section and Προγράμματα Διαγωνισμάτων (Exam Timetables) were designed as high-utility pages for current and prospective students — not just proof-of-results but operational resources that keep the site useful throughout the school year rather than only at enrolment time.

Technical build

The site was built on WordPress with a custom theme, delivering the structured, content-rich architecture required by an institution with this depth of programme offering. The bilingual content — Greek for the primary audience and English for the iGCSE/IAL international pathway section — is managed within the same WordPress installation, with dedicated English-language pages for IAL General Info, What We Offer, and the programme overview serving prospective students who approach via international examination searches.
